North Island – Auckland

2 nights in Auckland were more than enough for us. It was chucking down hard on our first night and we couldn’t do much in the city since everything closed at 5pm. The only thing left to do was either to eat or drink. Had an early dinner at Ponsonby Central and braved the rain to find Deadshot bar, which we randomly googled. This cosy, speakeasy cocktail bar turned out to be a hidden gem. We were the only ones there other than a guy at the bar chatting with the bartender.

Funnily enough, a local friend told us that Pink was rejected at this bar when she came to Auckland last year. Anyhoooo, we loved this place and couldn’t be luckier that our server, Philip had a keen eye for photography too.

As the Director of Accommodation, May selected a well located AirBnb which was a stone throw away from Ponsonby Central. There was nothing not to like about this area. Hip cafes, bars and restaurants line the main street and it was within walking distance to the City Center. So, for those planning a trip to Auckland City, you might want to consider this area.

Although, we didn’t spend a lot of time in Auckland, we still managed to catch up with some old friends to see how things are going for them. Good times 🙂

And finally, the “official” NZ road trip begins! Next stop, Bay of Islands!
